Product: H3 Headset
Maker: EPOS

In an age where every platform needs a separate headset to talk to people rather, it is on the Xbox, Playstation, PC, or if you want to listen to some BGM’s on the Nintendo Switch. EPOS tries to solve this problem of needing one for each platform by launching its new headset, the H3. With its headquarters based in Copenhagen, Denmark, EPOS is relatively a new company that was bought out in 2020.
The construction of the H3 headset seems sturdy itself as the headband’s internals is a strip of stainless steel that you can extend for an individual’s comfort giving it an ergonomic design. The outer layer of the headband is a rather pleasant leather headband that fits snuggly on my head that prevents the headset from swinging around when moving. There are even markers on the metal strip of the headband just in case if someone else wanted to use it or if it was moved to a different measurement. As for the ear cuffs of this headset, they too are a comfortable leather material in which if you are gaming for extended periods will not bother you at all as I have used it for 4 to 5 hours of constant use and felt no discomfort myself. The downside of using leather material is that eventually, the material will chip and crack from use over time though this headset has made the ear cuffs detachable so that they can be replaced as EPOS sells the parts on the website as well. As for the weight of this headset, I compared it to the one I use daily and the ones that my friend uses, and it’s quite lighter than your average headset.
If an individual has any color preference on their headset (I do like my blues and blacks) sadly though this headset only comes in two colors, black and white. Now for the setup of your headset, there is none! The EPOS H3 is a complete plug-and-play headset when it comes to PC and for obvious reasons, as is with the other platforms. Though EPOS does have its own software that you can use for your headsets, it will not pick up the H3 in part due to using a 3.5 mm headphone jack that I can assume.
Now that the construction of the headset is done, let’s talk about the features of the headset, the volume control on the right-hand side of the headset can be moved in clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust the volume through the dial only has notches on the side I felt it was an annoyance to adjust this and would have rather had a miniature dial poking out from the headset as many other ones do. The other feature of this headset is that its microphone boom arm has noise cancellation just in case anything is going on in the background and can be muted by simply lifting the boom arm in the upright position. Unfortunately, before going through some notes, I had no idea that this was a function until further inspection of the manual that only shows a picture of the headset in the upright position with a microphone crossed out with the only worded instructions is “Muting the microphone”. Though I get what is saying it would have been nice to have more text so it would have been clearer, and the rest of the manual is the same as the rest of the explanations of the headset, just pictures, and a 3 or 4-word instruction.
The biggest feature and the main selling point of this headset are that it can be used on any platform as the company calling this specific headset “The best all-rounder”, the headset comes with two different plug-ins depending on what platform you are going to use it for. The first cable that you can put into the headset is for the PC, that as stated before, uses a 3.5 mm jack that can be plugged into the headset and microphone jack. The other cable is this all-in-one hooked 3.5 mm jack that can be used for the rest of the platforms as if it were a pair of earphones.
The downside to this all-in-one headset is the fact that it uses the 3.5 mm jack in the first place as the mic quality is decent and nothing notable as USB offers superior mic quality and sound due to bypassing the computer’s sound card on the motherboard and using their own sound processing system and the USB is more versatile. Although it is a 3.5 mm jack, the audio quality you will receive is going to be superior to the USB because of the low latency, though the sound on this particular headset, I would say, would be on par with some of the better ones if you are looking for surround sound or anything higher, you are not going to get it from this headset.
Pros:
- Replaceable parts can extend the life of the headset.
- Can be used on any gaming platform!
- Good price for a person on a budget.
Cons:
- A 3.5 mm jack for the PC is not ideal for mic quality.
- Features are limited.
- Not for those who demand the best of their audio and mic.
Alexknight2005 Gives the EPOS H3 headset a Drastik Measure a 6.8 out of 10. (68).
At the price of $119.00 for this headset as of the writing of this review, you are getting quite a bit of value for your money if you are just looking to get one headset for all of your platforms and do not want to spend the money for a headset individually for your PC and consoles. But when something tries to specialize in doing everything, the quality tends to be lower because of trying to be a Jack-of-all-trades. But for those who are just looking for a headset for the PC, you might want to look for another headset.
