Kontrakt is a dark and twisted story about schizophrenia. For those of you who don’t know what schizophrenia is, let me enlighten you. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects how a person thinks and feels; in some cases, they lose touch with reality. This game is absolutely nuts. You’re a Hitman; you’re going around on different missions and fulfilling your contracts.

This particular game is not for everybody, so let me just get that out of the way. If you can’t handle frustration or if you’re very sensitive to strobing effects, do not play this game. If what I said doesn’t affect you in any way, then definitely take a look. Like I said, long story short, you’re a Hitman roaming around killing people, based upon the missions that have been given to you.

Playing this game, I did die a lot, so it did get very frustrating. The controls were a bit frustrating when you try to aim the cursor; sometimes, it is not accurate at all. Not to mention the AI in this game seems to have an auto target on you. So if you miss, you’re pretty much dead where you stand. There is no being sneaky, either; every time I personally tried to sneak on an enemy, it was game over. The one ability you use to point out the enemy was really over the top. Where this ability is supposed to help you is a blessing and a curse!

The graphics in this game are decent enough; they are not the greatest, but this is an overhead point of view. The style reminds me of an RPG maker-type layout. The colors are good and the effects are amazing. I just feel the controls, although decent, are not optimized. They also say that it has partial controller support, but I haven’t seen any. I feel, with this game, if they had an option to use a controller, it would have worked better.

The soundtrack, wow, I got to admit the eerie feeling of the music and the theme give me the chills. The ambiance with the music itself and hearing the gunshots and the blood splatters really make my hair stand on end. The story, so far, is good. I personally have not advanced much because, like I said, it’s pretty much one shot and you’re dead. This game is very unforgiving in that aspect. I would like to know more about the story.

Pros:

  • Price
  • Soundtrack
  • Art Style
  • Good Graphics

Cons:

  • Can be Extremely Frustrating
  • May Cause Seizures
  • No Controller Support

Wolfpack (Wagz) Gives Kontrakt a Drastik Measure of 7.0 out of 10 (70)

Let’s take the time to sum everything up. Soundtrack itself is really good; they did an amazing job with it. The controls, although they work, I feel they should add a controller option or, at least, make it a bit better on keyboard and mouse. Frustration and challenging levels, let me check; OH YES, IT’S THERE. This game is extremely frustrating and unforgiving, which can be a blessing and a curse. I mean, I’m up for a challenge but this is a bit on the ridiculous side. On the plus side, there were really no bugs or glitches I have seen yet. Let’s talk about price; at the time of this review, the price of Kontrakt is originally $14.99 USD on Steam. Right now, it’s on sale for $9.74 USD, which, to me, is not bad for this genre of game. I would say check this game out-it’s worth a buy! It’s fun, challenging and trippy as well. So if you’re into that, check it out.
