Mugen Souls is a RPG developed by Idea Factory and published by Ghostlight LTD. It’s funny, quirky, and overall creature-beating fun wrapped up in one package! When I first got into the game, it felt like Disgaea mixed with Hyperdimension Neptunia; however, as I played more, it really stepped into its own place. With entertaining gameplay and sweet graphics, Mugen Souls is definitely a game I’ll continue to play. The comedy is well done and the controls are simple enough to learn. This is the best Souls game I’ve ever played.

Mugen Souls has fun gameplay, but only if you remember how to use it. Most mechanics are only explained once as you go through the game and I have yet to find where to find the info again within the game. It would be nice to get a review without having to do a restart from the beginning of the game. However, ignoring trying to remember all the mechanics, you can still have a lot of fun just wailing on creatures and turning them into Peons… even though you don’t remember the mechanics for turning them into Peons, you are still creating more Peons!

The soundtrack is a bit lackluster, but because of that, it truly allows you to go hours into the game without getting tired of the slightly repetitive music. It’s the perfect music to get up from, go to the local corner store, get a hot dog, and return home to listen to again. It doesn’t make you want to stay in your seat to listen, but when you come back to it, it won’t make you want to throw up… as much as possibly the corner store hot dog will. The voices are spectacular and add flavor to the background music and the comedic values really stand out when the characters speak.

The graphics are vibrant and colorful for the character sprites. Some worlds are brightly colored while other areas are drab by comparison to others, but that’s usually because some evil force is making it that way… or the continent itself is not getting enough moe. Yes… continents need cute girls doing cute things, too. Land has feelings! HOW ELSE CAN YOU PAINT WITH ALL THE COLORS OF THE W- whoops. Wrong franchise.

All in all, Mugen Souls is pretty funny. It’s got funny characters and funny dialogue to keep you playing, even if the gameplay does not. Do you like dressing up your characters? Collect the clothing! Like transforming the main heroine into your favorite moe archetype and prancing around in those clothes! This game is for you. At $19.99 USD, Mugen Souls is worth the hours of playing for the clothing and funny dialogue, and even the tummy ache from the corner store hot dog.

Lolinia gives Mugen Souls a Drastik Measure 6.1 out of 10.0 (61).
