Eroge! Sex and Games Makes Sexy Games (Eroge!) is a hentai game in the style of a visual novel developed and published by Clock Up team Anise. This hardcore hentai game puts you in the shoes of a young man named Mochizuki Tomoya and his love for eroge which leads him to work at a failing eroge studio. Playing the process of making a eroge has its fun, but this game brings that full circle.

Warning: there will be slight story spoilers of the base story, but I will try to keep them minimal if possible.

First impressions of Eroge! were remnant of an adult visual novel. The main menu for the game played off what you come to expect of most visual novels, with a simple screen and options. Once you start a game though, that quickly changes as you are thrown into a hentai scene with an elven woman and tentacles, setting the tone for what is to come. The music comes off in a very pop style with the main menu but changes as the mood shifts, depending on the scene.

Coming into the story, Eroge! is told from the perspective of our main character, Mochizuki Tomoya, and as such, we experience his life with the eroge company known as Flower. Flower is failing and has one more shot to become successful as Tomoya joins, trying to offer his knowledge of what makes eroge successful from his experience to each of the four girls on staff, which leads to some pretty comical events occurring. This is where the game shifts focus however, as you get to examine one of the girl’s work and help them improve as a eroge maker, setting you down one of eight different endings the game has to offer. Once you pick your girl, prepare to stick with her as after the first four events occur, you are locked into them and the storyline will follow her specifically.

This is where the game does things very well. With eight different endings to unlock, each run spanning a time of four hours to six hours, you will get your money’s worth very quickly. Each girl’s run has a good ending and bad ending to look for. The story will also shift more towards seeking approval from the girl after the first four events, as the girl you choose will start to show different traits and kinks towards Tomoya which he uses to get the girl more hot and bothered as time goes along. Eroge! is not afraid to show some skin, or anything else for that matter. Early on in the story, the girls will be very hesitant as they have no sexual experience to their name, but as Tomoya works with them, you see them open up and reveal more intimate natures about their personalities. This transitions into scenes where various types of sexual actions will occur; like anal, and being tied to a ceiling by rope to name a few.

The characters of Eroge! as well as the voice acting are one of the best elements this game can offer, giving a unique feel and experience to each of the four main girl’s runs. There is Himeno Kisara, the illustrator for Flower, who tends come off snobbish and prideful, but her focus on cute art can kill a eroge in a heartbeat. Following Kisara is Fujiwara Momoka, the scenario writer for Flower who comes off as gentle with a love of cute things, but lacks the ability to be dark and grim due to this. Kousaka Iori, the graphic artist at Flower, comes in after with a shut-in and sometimes expressionless stature, but highly skilled at coloring, although lacking on certain details like flesh and various bodily fluids. Last but not least, Sonono Nene rounds out the cast as the president of Flower, amongst a number of other jobs. She is the smallest of the group size wise, and the only one of the four with experience on eroges but comes off as timid and when she tries to take control, more than often can’t. The voice acting for these girls, as well as the side cast, feels genuine and pure, at times coming off as if they were real people. You get a sense of emotion, and when lust is called for, you can hear it in the voices clear as day, a sign these roles were given with the characters nature in mind.

With the presentation of Eroge!, you are provided with an anime-like experience, combined with the best of realistic visuals, and a simple yet effective soundtrack. Visually, it feels like the developer took an anime world and combined it with the adult goodness of lust and sex. The characters express themselves to the fullest extent when aroused, and even when they are not, you can tell the artist wanted that one hundred percent perfect image as they keep the same fluid faces in a more calm and composed manner. Soundtrack-wise, it keeps to the tone of the emotion going on in the room, whether it be the pop-like tones used in the main screen as well as during the day time, to the more subtle and sensual sounds used when Tomoya and one of the four main girls are getting frisky.

Overall, Eroge! is a hentai game that does almost all of its elements just right. With a simple story that grows as you progress, beautifully voice acted lines, multiple endings, stunning anime-like visuals, mood-changing music and well-executed sexual scenes, this game is one not to pass on.

Pros:

  • Simple, yet changing story
  • Beautifully voice-acted characters
  • Eight endings
  • Music that changes with the mood
  • Sex scenes are well placed and designed
  • Anime visuals that do not take away from the experience

Cons:

  • Story can drag on in a few places

DarkLunarDude gives Eroge! Sex and Games Makes Sexy Games a Drastik Measure 9.7 out of 10 (97).

At the cost of $44.95 on MangaGamer, I can highly recommend this game to hentai lovers as well as some adult visual novel readers due to the styling of this title. With a large hour count per run, and how the sexual content was handled, it is worth every penny you will sink into it.
