Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal- (Ame no Marginal) is a kinetic visual novel developed by stage-nana and published by Sekai Project. This is a very sad story wrapped in mystery and served with a side dish of despair… and then maybe you get hope as a dessert. Tinged with a bit of death and confusion, Ame no Marginal will keep you engrossed in a story that truly pulls at your heart. Many thanks to Sekai Project for the review key!

Ame no Marginal has a short, yet gripping story that pulls you into the world very well. You see some pass on, some live on, some move on. This kinetic visual novel starts you out in a world where the rain never ceases. You never die; you never get hungry. It is essentially a place where time has stopped. It is a world that you are not trapped in, as you can go back to the real world. However, the question really is: Do you want to return?

When life is hard and you begin thinking thoughts you shouldn’t, would you return to a world that ignores your existence? Rejects your existence?

While the game is minimalistic with the visuals, it weaves together a world in which some tough issues are tackled. Visually, the game relies on background art to show the world as it is through the character’s eyes. Unlike some other visual novels, which rely heavily on special effects or gimmicks to tell you what a character is feeling, Ame no Marginal uses music, sound effects, and clever usage of words to make the reader feel what the character is feeling. With feels-y music as the soundtrack, this visual novel truly takes the reader for an experience.

At $12.99 USD on Steam, Ame no Marginal is definitely well-priced, but does feel like a game that I’d wait for a sale on. It’s not that it’s not worth full price, but the fact that it is short, even with the extra epilogue for a different stage-nana game, makes it one that I would personally wait for a good sale. Some parts tragic, some parts depressing, and all parts wonderfully crafted, Ame no Marginal definitely will move you. Maybe you’ll even get a tart dessert~

Lolinia gives Ame no Marginal -Rain Marginal- a Drastik Measure 8.5 out of 10.0 (85).
